Forty-Something

THE ADIRONDACKS ARE THE OLDEST ROCKS ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH.

AND THEY ARE RISING.

AT LEAST, THAT’S WHAT I WAS TOLD.

So begins a tale of 1 summer, 2 friends, 46 mountains, and 5 million years.

A young kid from The City sets out, in his first summer away from home, on a quest to climb the High Peaks of northern New York, led by an enigmatic mentor from the North Country. Together they share adventures and overcome challenges, not least of which is unraveling each other’s stories.

Along the way, there is much to learn about these mountains, from their unique and ancient formation, to the arrival of natives, the European struggle for dominion over the New World, American independence, exploitation and plunder, and finally to the miraculous decision to preserve and protect this magical place, the largest wilderness in the continental United States.
